Tiger Woods

"Earl Woods headed the group of advisors and trainers who guided his son's quest for golfing greatness....The final member of the team was Jay Brunza, a retired navy captain and clinical psychologist. Brunza, who had previously helped athletes at the U.S. Naval Academy learn to concentrate better to improve their performance, began working with Tiger. Brunza taught him mental tricks to increase his concentration and hypnotized Tiger to instill some of his lessons. He even taught the young golfer how to hypnotize himself to get the same results.

Brunza is credited with helping Tiger develop his almost Zen like concentration, which allows him to focus on every shot "In golf," Tiger says, "you have to concentrate like this!" Tiger snaps his fingers to show how quickly golfers must regain their focus after a bad shot or distraction so they can hit their next shot cleanly. "My father and I call it zoning. If you mishit a shot, hit it out of bounds, put it in the water, you have to get your focus back. You've got to start thinking ahead, don't look behind.""
